Look & Feel |
Lastly, that great, unquantifiable,
and wholly unscientific test is "does it look and feel right".
As a professional art dealer I tend to rely on my 'gut feeling'
first and foremost when evaluating a painting, and rarely does it
let me down. Even if a work ticks all the other boxes, if it doesn't
feel right I would tend to disregard it.

| Summary |
To summarise, my personal checklist
is:
- Evenness of Technique - is the hand even?
- Age - does it have genuine age?
- Surface - is there a good 'patina', signs of
abrasion, wear and tear?
- Medium & Support - are these consistent?
- Palette - is the palette within Wallis's limited
range of colours?
- Ground - are there areas of bare ground?
- Degree of Detail - is the level of detail within
Wallis's range?
- Elements of a Composition - is each and every
element consistent with known examples?
- Signature - if signed, is the signature correct?
- Look & Feel- does it look and feel correct?
