The Perkin Collection |
| In 2008 we were pleased to
meet David Perkin at our gallery in Hayle. David explained that he
had inherited a cache of Wallis works from his grandfather, John
Perkin. The Perkins were a St Ives family, and the works had been
collected by various members of the family, including John Perkin,
Emma Perkin (David's mother) and Alice Lugg (David's great-aunt). |
| The works were in a trunk, left to
David, that had only recently been collected after many years in
storage, and we were priviliged to be the first to see them. |
| We were amazed at this exciting
discovery, and after we had examined the works and learned about
David's family background we had no doubts whatsoever regarding
their authenticity. |
| We promtly purchased several pieces,
including two paintings and three drawings. David also showed us
other works from his substantial collection, including drawings
(on cigarette packets), paintings, painted tin lids
and a painted glass fishing float (until this time we
had never seen a painted glass float apart from the one in our own
collection). |
| In 2010 David
very generously decided to donate the proceeds of the sale of a
Wallis painted tin lid to Cornwall Hospice Care. The
painting was entered in the David Lay (October 2010)
sale. |
